ENCHANTRESS
VCE STUDIO ARTS UNIT 4 (2020)
Enchantress is a wearable art piece that I created during Unit 4 of VCE Studio Arts in Year 12 at Brauer College. This piece was inspired by the shape of crinoline cages that were used in the 18th century. Enchantress is created all from repurposed materials that family and friends have generously donated to me. The crinoline inspired cage skirt is created from welding off cuts of tensile fencing wire and the frame of a yabby net together to create the main dome shape, which I then covered with offcuts of copper wire that I bent into organic shapes. The overskirt was created from metres of fabric that my Nan gifted to me as she no longer had any use for them since closing her bridal boutique store. This piece was selected to be part of the Ballarat NextGen exhibition at the Ballarat Art Gallary in 2021.
I have revisited this piece since creating it back in 2020 and have added copper fairy lights to the crinoline skirt and also made a copper wire bodice with matching lights for a competition (F Project - Fabric of Life Festival) in 2022).
