TRASH BAG DRESS

VCE STUDIO ARTS UNIT 2  PROJECT (2019)

A wearable art piece created from grey single use plastic bags from supermarkets, branded plastic supermarket bags and bread bags. These plastic bags were cut into strips and fused together by melting the plastic with an iron to create plastic fabric sheets where the dress pattern was cut from.

Wanting to play with the idea of "old" and "new" I decided to create a historical gown representing the "old" combining with the "new", invention of plastic and how its use has become as mainstream as donning clothes everyday.
